This project envisions the transformation of one of Zurich’s most contested public spaces, Bellevue, where the city meets Lake Zurich. Today pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, and four lanes of fast-moving traffic compete for limited space, leaving little opportunity for citizens to connect with the water.
Through site analysis and dialogue, the proposal explores how these functions might coexist more harmoniously. By reducing traffic and strengthening links to the bike network, the design opens new possibilities for safer and more balanced urban life. The illustration imagines a reorganization that creates breathing room for all users while reconnecting residents with their lakefront heritage.
Rather than forcing incompatible uses together, the vision treats Bellevue as a new threshold, one that balances movement with pause. Will it remain a junction dominated by infrastructure and cars, or evolve into an inclusive lakefront destination where people can gather, connect, and find joy?
