Learning Tree is an international primary school located in the heart of Kiba, Tokyo. In close collaboration with aha.Architects, a young Zurich-based office, I visualized their renovation project for the school. The challenge was twofold: to create visuals that resonate with the playful imagination of young children, while also clearly communicating the design intent to adults—parents, investors, and stakeholders. As a result, the images became educational tools in themselves. Drawing inspiration from Japanese narrative architecture and fantasy depictions of reality, the illustrations aim to strike a balance between the existing space and how a child might perceive it. Since the school is named ‘The Learning Tree’, a symbol of learning and shared knowledge, large columns are reimagined as trees, everyday objects are playfully oversized, and the lively, crisscross dynamic of a school environment is woven into the compositions. At the same time, the visuals remain true to the architectural intervention, offering a bridge between imagination and structure.
